I was about seven when my art teacher pulled out one of those calligraphy markers and scrolled our names across scraps of paper. I asked her how she did it. She must have been a very modest woman, because her answer was that it was the pen.
It was never the pen. It turns out the thing I thought came in a package takes most of a lifetime, and I have been at it ever since.
